KnowledgePoints
The KnowledgePoints tutoring program begins with a complete Diagnostic Assessment. Before enrolling at the tutoring center, each student is given a series of tests to pinpoint his or her specific needs. The tests are administered individually and measure achievement level and mastery of specific skills. Our assessment provides a clear picture of your child's strengths and weaknesses.

Following the assessment, we design an educational package that fits perfectly with everything we've discovered about your child. Choosing from a library with more than 20,000 lessons, we custom-build a tutoring program specifically for your child's needs -- it's a unique "prescription" for learning written for each and every student. The materials used come from America's most respected education publishers. Dr. Litzenberger, an independent validator, concluded, "The KnowledgePoints tutoring program improves the performance of all students and can reduce the 'performance gap' that plagues our education system." "KnowledgePoints is an effective tutoring program that provides skills in reading and math leading to success in the classroom," said Dr. Litzenberger. KnowledgePoints provides tutoring in a small group environment designed to provide individualized help for every student. KnowledgePoints remains dedicated to providing effective tutoring and ensures that all students have the opportunity to receive a minimum of 40 instructional hours.

Sylvan Learning Center York
Our programs are based on our own Sylvan designed and developed curriculum which has been in use for over 30 years and has been found to be extremely successful with kids of all ages and abilities. Initial assessments are made of the child's skill gaps as compared to national statistics of grade level readiness.

Our curriculum is then customized around the childs needs and a program is designed to address the child's skill gaps based on a three part approach to skill mastery. The children are taught first through guided practice activities on an individualized basis with the instructor. They are then given a series of independent practice activities which are meant to reinforce the skills taught and to foster independence in learning. Lastly, distributive practice activities are used to ensure that mastery of each skill has been achieved. Ongoing progress assessments are used every 36 hours of instruction to ensure that statistical progress reflects that seen at the instructional table by the instructor. Monthly meetings with parents ensure that parents are always kept abreast of their students progress within the program.

Meetings with teachers and schools are held to ensure that programs are aligned and skills are being taught in a way that meets school standards and expectations to ensure the most academic success for the child.

Students benefit from this program not only because the program is completely individualized, but also because the student-teacher ratio never exceeds five to one. To keep the parents up-to-date on the student’s progress, the Director of Learning schedules an informal meeting with the parents after every ten tutoring sessions. If agreed to by the local school district, students can tutor until the end of the school year at no cost to parents or the school district. Based on the results of their initial assessment, an Individual Learning Plan is created specifically for your student.
